Technology in Science Curriculum

The NPEF has been responsible for much of the recent technology in the science classrooms. Vernier science probes and LabQuest handhelds purchased through previous NPEF grants have been implemented very successfully.

With the district’s curriculum placing a greater emphasis on authentic performance tasks, they have provided students with the opportunity to quickly acquire real-time data in the field or without being confined to a computer terminal, and have facilitated rigorous inquiry-based learning, problem solving, and student collaboration.

The LabQuest, originally introduced in the Physics classroom, are now being used by Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Environmental Science and Middle School students. Acquisition of the new handheld LabQuests will also immediately increase the number of applications for the previously purchased science probes.
