The main goal of this project was to provide materials for students to help improve their reading abilities. The high interest books and audio books that were purchased are essential to help expand classroom libraries and to promote independent reading at school and at home.

High-interest books and audio books are essential to help expand classroom libraries and to promote independent reading at school and at home. In addition, teachers can use the professional book and voluntary discussion group materials for additional ideas and strategies to increase interest and motivation for reading.
Super QAR: Beyond the basics
The QAR program consists of Language Arts/Reading Comprehension Kits used in differentiated instruction in 3rd – 6th grades. The program has shown improvement in higher-level thinking skills and the ability to ask thoughtful questions about the reading process and comprehension. This program showed great success at Salt Brook and this grant allows it to be implemented at Allen W. Roberts.
Writer’s Workshop
This grant will allow preschool through sixth grade teachers to purchase materials to further the district writing initiative. These materials will include both mentor texts and professional video series to serve as models for both students and teachers.
Word Wizards
Students needs differ not only by reading level, but also by level of spelling development. This grant provides materials to assist teacher’s planning instruction at each developmental stage.
